Privacy Policy
Effective August 2026Choner ("we," "us," "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you join our waitlist, use our website, or use the Choner app, why we collect it, and what choices you have.
Choner is currently in active development. Some sections below describe how data will be handled once the app is live, in addition to how we handle data today (for example, waitlist signups).
Information we collect
Information you give us directly:
- Name and email address (waitlist signup, account creation)
- Profile information (goals, accountability preferences, energy/intensity settings)
- Challenge and check-in data (habits chosen, streak history, completion status)
- Partner information (who you invite, and their equivalent data as it relates to a shared challenge)
- Any messages or content you submit through the app (e.g. milestone posts)
Information collected automatically:
- Device information (device type, operating system, app version)
- Usage data (features used, session length, crash reports)
- Approximate location derived from IP address, if applicable to a feature
Choner does not collect precise GPS location, biometric data, or connect to third-party health platforms (e.g. Apple Health, Google Fit) at this time. If that changes in a future version, this policy will be updated first.
How we use this information
- To create and maintain your account and connect you with your accountability partner
- To operate core features (challenges, streaks, check-ins, nudges)
- To personalize your experience (e.g. suggested challenge intensity)
- To communicate with you (waitlist updates, product announcements, support)
- To monitor, maintain, and improve the reliability and security of the service
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not use your data to train third-party advertising models, and we do not sell your personal information.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- With your accountability partner: by design, some information (your check-ins, streak status, and challenge activity) is visible to the specific person you've paired with — that visibility is the core mechanic of the product.
- Service providers: we use third-party infrastructure providers (for example, Supabase for backend/database hosting) who process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality obligations.
- Legal reasons: if required to comply with a legal obligation, protect our rights, or respond to a lawful request from public authorities.
- Business transfers: if Choner is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, security, or legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention).
Your rights and choices
- Access & correction: you can request a copy of the data we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
- Deletion: you can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
- Opt-out: you can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time via the link in those emails.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under applicable law (for example, GDPR if you're in the EU/UK, or CCPA if you're a California resident).
Children's privacy
Choner is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
International data transfers
Choner is based in Sri Lanka, and we may use service providers located in other countries, including the United States. By using our service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, which may have different data protection laws.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you (for example, via email or an in-app notice) before the change takes effect.
